ADAM
JOHNSTON
BIO
Zepplin has always been
core to my musical background, but only over the
last five years have I realized how it has become
so much more. I grew up playing drums on ice cream
cartons and a "Magic Shot Shooting Gallery"
for a snare, to bands like, KISS, Ted Nugent, Foghat,
Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Trower and a
bunch of fusion bands AND of course, LED ZEPPELIN.
Little did I know that 20 years later as I joined
heavy hitting blues bands like, "The Momma's
Boy's, did the influence come full circle. I found
myself pounding out these heavy BONHAM-like grooves
which are now the backbone of how I play.
I started playing the drums when I was 12, first
real set at 13, and by the 7th grade was playing
backyard parties in 70's rock cover bands. In high-school
that grew into original projects which were heavily
influenced by Travers & Rush. Follow this with
10 years of fusion jamming and lots of listening
to the likes of the Yellow Jackets, Jean Luc Ponty,
Billy Cobham, Dave Weckl and the Dixie Dregs.
These days I really dig getting back to my roots
by playing in this very challenging and totally
fun Zep tribute. Working with a talented group of
guys in THE LED makes playing music like this effortless
and exciting. I know it's easy to ruin a Zeppelin
tune if you don't have the Bonham-like groove and
honestly, who can replace that madman? So hitting
hard and playing from my gut helps to put me in
the Bonham drivers seat.
